It’s about the immense struggles we face, the joy and euphoria of coming out as our authentic selves, and the fighting spirit inside each and every one of us.
My name is Marissa Kay. I’m 27 years old, and I am a singer songwriter based in San Francisco, CA. I am also transgender, and I am planning to release my first ever solo album, “Trans Is Love” in October 2017. I have launched a Kickstarter to help this dream come true!
Before I transitioned, my life felt empty. I struggled with depression and believed I didn’t deserve to live. But In September 2015, I made the biggest and scariest decision of my life, and came out as my authentic self. Everything changed in an instant. I learned to love myself and the world around me. I became part of a wonderfully community that constantly supports each other. In June 2016, I quit my job, sold everything I couldn’t take with me, and drove 3,000+ miles cross country from Florida to San Francisco to pursue my dream of making music and to find a new home.
So far, California has been absolutely amazing. I’ve performed all across the Bay Area in venues such as the world-renowned Hotel Utah Saloon and The Starry Plough. I also formed a band, The Lunar Angels, consisting of some of the most talented and hard working musicians in the San Francisco. I’ve worked in community outreach and activism for the LGBTQ+ community and social justice. And I’ve been honored to be featured on some music blogs including 2017 Summer of Love.
Now is the next step. I want to record an album, and show my story to the world. And I need your help.
My music has a wide variety of influences ranging from Country and Folk to Punk and Alternative. The result is music that is passionate, heartfelt, and immediately gripping. I’ve been writing these songs literally all over the country and I truly believe they will save lives and change the world.
